Example Project of Deep Energy Retrofit
This project was a comprehensive deep energy analysis and retrofit of a home, performed by our team. We began the process with a blower door test and energy audit. From our initial analysis we identified several efficiency improvements which had the highest potential for energy savings and stayed within the constraints laid out by the homeowner.
We began with the HVAC system by sealing the ductwork with our Aeroseal system. At the same time we replaced one hydro air handler for a more efficient, propane system. The homeowner also elected to replace an outdated refridgerator for a newer EnergyStar model.
The major focus of the project was replacement of the roof and fiberglass attic insulation. The original cedar shingle roof was nearing the end of its life, which presented a unique opportunity for insulation upgrades. The thermal boundary in this roof was rated 'poor.' The effective R-value was intended to be R-30, actual R-value was estimated to be R-5. With the roof removed, our team was easily able to remove the old fiberglass insulation, prep the surfaces for spray foam, and air sealing of all penetrations in the building envelope.

Rodent damage and extensive air leakage was discovered.
