Duct Aerosealing
The Aeroseal system seals all types of ductwork from the inside out to improve the efficiency, comfort and air quality of new and existing buildings. In new construction, Aeroseal can eliminate the need for taping ductwork connections, ensuring every leak is sealed from the start. Aeroseal first tests duct leakage, then seals the air leaks and tests again to document the improvement and final duct leakage.
The system works by injecting adhesive particles into the air ducts. The particles travel through the ductwork, seeking holes and cracks. The sealant particles attach directly onto the edges of any hole and crack, effectively sealing it, regardless of where it is, without coating the inside of the ductwork. Aeroseal is like fix-a-flat for your duct system!

Why The Need?
Heating, air conditioning and ventilation account for approximately half the total energy usage of most homes. Duct leakage in residential homes costs consumers $25 billion each year and much more to commercial building operators / owners.
If you’re like most building owners, 30 cents of every $1 you spend on heating and cooling disappears into thin air due to leaky ducts. Leaky ducts also contribute to numerous other health and safety issues that include:
-
Air quality: Leaky ducts pull dust and other pollutants into building from attic and wall spaces
-
Safety: Leaky ducts contribute to back drafting of gas appliance fumes, auto exhaust and radon gas into your living space
-
Health: Leaky ducts create air cross contamination in hospitals and doctor’s offices
-
Comfort: Leaky ducts contribute to air balance issues in commercial buildings
-
Ventilation: One of the primary causes of ventilation issues in high rise buildings such as hotels and multifamily dwellings is leaky duct systems
What can I expect?
Comfort Benefits
-
Reduce temperature variation between rooms and floors
-
Reduce humidity in rooms in rooms
-
Fix hot or cold room issues
Air Quality Benefits
-
Reduce pollutants, Allergens, dust between rooms
-
Reduce radon, combustion products and noxious gases in indoor air
-
Better air circulation
Energy Savings
-
Lower energy bills: Average homeowner saves between $600-$850 per year (U.S. Department of Energy).
-
Sealing ducts is the single most effective efficiency measure you can make in your home (2009 Mckinsey & Co. Study).
-
Longer life expectancy of expensive HVAC appliances
-
EPA estimates increased heating and cooling efficiency of 20%
-
Average investment return between 2-4 years (Energystar Duct Investor)
ECS-Aeroseal can accomplish this by sealing your ducts in just one visit.

Aeroseal Process
1) Block supply registers and return grilles in order for air to escape only through leaks
2) Pressurize ducts to calculate pre-seal air loss for the system
3) Sealant is injected into the ducts for roughly 20-40 minutes
4) Small sealant particles are kept suspended in the airflow by continuous air
movement
5) As the air stream makes a sharp turn to exit through a leak, the particles collide with and adhere to the leak edges
6) Ducts are sealed with only 1-2 oz. of sealant material remaining in ductwork
7) A post-seal pressure test determines the air loss after the sealing process
8) A computer-generated analysis summarizing the buildings amount of leakage reduction is generated, providing verification of success of the process.
Aside from setup and breakdown (4-6 hours), the sealing process takes 20-40 minutes. Please follow the link below to the Aeroseal website if you wish to learn more about the sealing process or keep reading on to learn more about the results you can expect to see.

What To Expect
Once the duct system has been sealed, our technician will run a post-seal leakage test and print off a full report (see "Certificate of Completion" presented below) that shows the difference we have made. Results will be effective immediately upon completion of the sealing process.
Please follow the link at the bottom of the page to the Aeroseal website if you wish to view case studies from buildings that have been sealed with the same process and to learn how you can improve your home or commercial building with ECS Aeroseal.
